The southeastern part of the prefecture is appropriate for exploration of the riparian areas of the valley of the Gallikos river and of the archaeological site of Kolchis, in close distance to the modern village, that features antiquities of the Late Roman and Early Christian times. Further east, in the gentle hilly relief of the village of Ano Apostoloi, one can see the hill with the remains of the ancient city of Moryllos. Close by there was in ancient times the renowned sanctuary of Asclepius. The route can be concluded by a visit and ascent to the impregnable, overly enduring, byzantine fortress of Gynaikokastro, dating to the 14th c. The conspicuous view of the area from the peak of the acropolis both dazzles and compensates the hiker.
