Τhe city of the “Europaeoi” and its area

This route offers the opportunity to visit monuments of the Municipality of Paionia in the western part of the Kilkis prefecture. We will come across the once navigable Axios river, an important source of wealth for the area, and we will head towards Europos, the birthplace of Seleukos I Nicator. Once there, we will browse the ancient city and the funerary monuments, which include the Roman and Early Christian cemetery, the burial cluster of Europos, and the funerary complex in the modern community of Mesia, all regional aristocratic funerary structures. The respective funerary monuments of the community of Toumba are located 8 kms to the NE. Our route is completed with a visit to the early Ottoman bathhouse of Polykastro.
