Heroon in Doirani
This is an iconic Monument on top of a prominent hill, south of the Doirani settlement, erected in 1926 in honor of the 10,282 soldiers and 418 officers of the British Commonwealth armies, who died fighting on the Macedonian front, from 1915 to 1918. Honored are also the 1,979 missing in action. It was designed by the British architect, Sir Robert Lorimer, while the sculptures were created by the British artist, Walter Gilbert. The monument consists of an obelisk and two lions. On the periphery there are four pilasters detailing the names of the fallen and the battalions they served in.
