The monument is located at the 60th klm of the new Greek national road leading from Thessaloniki to Evzoni, a few kilometers outside the city of Polykastro. It was erected in 1997 in honor of the 40,000 fallen, and 100,000 wounded and missing in action soldiers that fought in the Macedonian Front (1915-1918). They originated from various countries constituting the Entente Cordiale. The monument consists of two main elements: the first is a five-sided, marble pilaster crowned by a torch, where a flame burns undimmed in remembrance of the heroes.

In each of the five sides there is an inscription – in the corresponding language – which reads as follows: “To the heroic children of Greece, France, Great Britain, Italy, and Serbia, who following the commands of their ancestors fought in this land and fell for Freedom and World Peace 1916-1918”. Across the five-sided pilaster stand the busts of the presidents of the allied countries during the years 1916-18: Vittorio Orlando (Italy), Aristeides Briand (France), Eleftherios Venizelos (Greece), Nikola Pašić (Serbia), Lloyd George (Great Britain).
